E
xperienced techs are in short supply where we are, so we've
taken to hiring recent graduates and training them on site in
order to grow our own. There's no denying that this could be a
time-consuming proposition and could deliver mixed results.
Especially when they're called upon to assist in cataract surgery, an
area that demands both sensitive skills and speed.
Instead of sending the new techs into the OR to observe a slate of
cataract cases and pick up what they can about the process — which
could take weeks before they reach any semblance of proficiency —
we break the training down into 3 steps:
