very day
around 1:30
p.m., we have
a 30-40 minute OR
huddle to go over the
next day's surgery
schedule case by case.
The nurse manager
and assistant nurse
manager look over the
procedures to make
sure we have the right personnel working and that the time is correct
on the schedule. We also check that our patients without barriers or
infection issues are scheduled first and those with infections, such as
C. diff, last. The sterile processing department and equipment tech
are also at the meeting to make sure that we have the proper implants
and instruments for each procedure — and that they are sterile and
here at the facility. If we are missing equipment or implants, we can
have what we need brought in well before the procedure starts. These
daily huddles ensure that the flow of our schedule is not interrupted
because everyone with a vested interest is present.
