Plastic fatigue mats might be a better way to prevent trips and falls. Stretchers easily roll over the sturdy mat's tapered edges so you won't have to worry about blankets bunching up or tape fray- ing. Plus, you can custom-order mats in any color or size. For each of our 2 ORs, we ordered 2 6-foot long tan mats for about $150 each. The mats cover most of the cords that extend from a wall socket to a machine, such as the forced-air warmer or electrosurgery generator. We no longer have to unplug our equipment between cases out of fear that someone will trip over the cords.
