Page 18 IDEAS That Work MENU OPTIONS Buy Lunch for (Most of) Your Surgeons There's a school of thought that says the way to a busy surgeon's heart is through his stomach. So we feed our docs, providing lunch to curry their favor and keep their cases coming to our center. They can place their orders from a menu and clipboard at our control desk. We've found that we can get compliance by way of the stomach as well. At the control desk there's also a daily list of docs who are late with their dictation and holding up our business office. If the surgeons don't dictate on time, guess what? No lunch for them. It works! Especially since their first assistants or any other staffers they bring along with them won't get lunch either. That can be a powerful incentive. Barbara J. Holder, RN, BSN, LHRM Andrews Institute Surgery Center Gulf Breeze, Fla. bholder@andrewsinstitutesc.com
