Page 14 IDEAS That Work Practical pearls from your colleagues ONE GOOD TURN Big Wheels Improve Patient Transport BIG WHEEL When maintenance added larger wheels to recovery chairs, patient transport became less of an uphill push. Lisa Moschkau, RN, BSN, MASL Our maintenance staff saw our CRNAs and techs struggling and straining to push sedated post-op patients in recliner chairs from the OR through the carpeted Phase 2 recovery area. So they suggested removing the 2 little, stubbornly zigzagging rear wheels and replacing them with bigger ones, like those on a tricycle, making the chairs easier to push and steer. Problem solved, and less risk of on-the-job aches and pains. Lisa Moschkau, RN, BSN, MASL St. Cloud, Minn. St. Cloud Surgical Center lisa.moschkau@scasurgery.com
