• Cutting suction tubing. Ms. Mohr notes that in order to save on
single-use suction tubing, the hospital will cut its 10-foot tubing in
half for its colonoscopy cases. "It's sold in 10-foot lengths, but you
don't need the full 10 feet for colonoscopies, so we cut it in half," says
Ms. Mohr. "That cut our costs for the tubing by half, too."
• Stocking an outdate box. Ms. DePew says that the hospital has an
easy way to use up supplies that are soon to expire. "If something is
going to be outdated in the next 30 days, we place it in our outdate
box," she says. "The person who's pulling the case knows to check
that box first for supplies."
