cuss as a group which option is best.
Everyone has input and we value their opin-
ions about what makes a product good for
our staff." For example, the techs decided
stiffer channel brushes were the better option
because they're less likely to kink and are eas-
ier on the techs' wrists as they manipulate the
brushes through an endoscope's channels.
"Anything we can do to keep the techs satis-
fied in their jobs and maintain their ergonomic
comfort keeps the team intact," says Ms.
Hoffman. "Continuity makes a huge difference
in their performance."
Tracking, training and testing
Joy Heim, RN, BSN, nurse manager of the
Boice-Willis Endoscopy Center in Rocky
Mount, N.C., says good training is essential to
ensure techs always follow proper scope
reprocessing practices. The work environ-
ment and workflow also make it easy to fol-
low all the required steps, says Ms. Heim.
"PPEs, cleaning solutions, brushes, cloths, the
leak tester and timer and scope attachments
— they're all well organized and always with-
in an arm's reach of the techs."
