dure areas. She spends another day reprocessing scopes at the sink.
On other days she serves as a floating tech who transports scopes
from procedure rooms to the reprocessing area, helps turn over
rooms and removes scopes from automatic endoscope reprocessors
(AERs) at the end of cycles — that's so techs who are cleaning scopes
at the sink can continue to work without having to constantly degown
and regown to handle clean scopes. The floating tech also jumps in
and helps with manual cleaning to give the scope cleaner regular
breaks. Rotating through various jobs keeps techs fresh and increases
their job satisfaction, says Ms. Hoffman, who points out that manually
cleaning scopes is a physical grind.
