ood commu-
nication is
vital with our
busy surgical sched-
ule, so we make it as
easy as we can for our
staff by equipping
everyone with 2-way
radios. They're rela-
tively inexpensive,
they attach easily to a
pocket and you just
run the cord up into
your ear.
Anesthesia, the pre-op nurses, the discharge nurses, the circulating
nurses and our sterilization people all have them, so everyone's kept
in the know. Nobody has to leave her post to find out that the patient
schedule has been switched, or that the next patient is ready for the
OR. Not only do they make us more efficient, they also boost patient
safety. For example, if an upcoming patient has a latex allergy, it's
easy to let everyone know. Or if the circulator needs a blanket from
the warming cabinet, she doesn't have to leave her patient. She can
just ask on the radio and someone will bring it to her.
