Didn't you read the manual?" • "Please tell me you're admitting Mr. Murphy!" 4. Staff feedback If you want to learn about staff problem spots, the PACU nurses don't pull punches. They'll tell it to you straight. "Dr. X has a personality like a blocked punt" or "Dr. Y is so rough, his PA is named Fang." "That resident is lazier than a hound dog." I know just what 1 nurse means when she says "that resident needs the talk" or "I need to sit him down." Our PACU nurses are the embodiment of tough love. They keep others and me on our toes. Thanks to them, once I leave the hospital, I can rest assured my patients are in the best of hands. OSM Dr. Kelly (johndak4@gmail.com) is an orthopedic surgeon/ sports-shoulder specialist who practices in Philadelphia, Pa. 1 5 4 | O U T PAT I E N T S U R G E R Y M A G A Z I N E | A P R I L 2 013
