you also have to safeguard
patient privacy. Here's an easy
way to do that. Buy a vinyl art
portfolio folder at any craft
store. Cut one side so that it
folds over and conceals the
patient name for confidential-
ity in case a visitor approach-
es the nurses station. When
the folder is opened, the care-
giver can see by a checkmark
that the patient has been
admitted in to pre-op. We
assign the patient a number
once we place him in a bed.
The anesthesiologist check-
marks again when the pre-
anesthesia assessment has been completed and we highlight the case
once we've taken the patient to the OR. When the folder is closed, you
can still easily see whom the anesthesiologist has seen and who has
gone to the OR. Plus, the folder looks neat and organized.
