Featuring sharp digital imaging, this single-use cholangioscope is
ideal for exploring and treating pancreatic and biliary ducts. It easily
attaches to any duodenoscope to enhance endoscopic retrograde
cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), capturing clear, digital images of
the pancreatic and bile ducts and allowing for further therapeutic
treatment through other detachable devices. The instrument is small
and holds smaller channels, which, if it weren't single-use, would be
difficult to reprocess thoroughly. "We didn't have this kind of imaging
capability before," says gastroenterologist Douglas Weine, MD, of
Red Bank (n.J.) Gastroenterology, which, before SpyGlass, borrowed
from a vendor a less sophisticated, reusable scope that attached to a
duodenoscope.
