Wireless Electric Dressing Can Prevent Infection
Bandages using weak electric fields to disrupt bacterial biofilm
infection can prevent infections, combat antibiotic resistance and
enable healing in infected burn wounds, according to a study pub-
lished in the Annals of Surgery. When moistened, a wireless electro-
ceutical dressing (WED) using silver and zinc printed on fabric gen-
erates a weak electric field without batteries, wires or any external
power supply, and it can be used like any other disposable dressing.
The researchers will continue to test the technology.
