ver find staff
members looking
idle, standing
around between tasks?
Train your staff to make a
habit of looking for tasks
that can be completed in 2
minutes: post-op phone
calls, entering case histo-
ry, completing a medical-
chart review, and so on.
Write these kinds of rudi-
mentary chores in a place
where everyone can see
them and remind your
people to be constantly
asking themselves, "What can I be doing right now?" Help them
develop the habit. As everyone begins seeing each other imple-
ment the rule, your staff will start to see a cultural shift at large
— one that benefits your entire facility's productivity. If everyone
adheres to the 2-minute rule, tedious tasks are split more fairly
and done more efficiently.
