Miller says profit margins are up. Going forward, the center wants to
offer patients more options to finance their procedures, which may
include offering patients healthcare credit cards.
• Strengthening the supply chain. One of Ms. Miller's first priorities
was to evaluate the supply chain as a way to "trim the fat." This
included renegotiating contracts with key suppliers, physician case-
costing comparisons and getting staff more engaged in finding less
expensive product substitutions, such as swapping a disposable back-
pad ECG in favor of a non-disposable 3-lead ECG for electrocautery
monitoring. "Now we see dollar signs on the shelves," Ms. Miller says.
