Take meeting minutes. Assign a staff member to take minutes.
It's difficult to both chair and document a meeting. If you have
information that counts as training, be sure to take credit for it.
Training can be as simple as having everyone review a policy and sign
off that they understand.
Encourage staff participation. When you complete your agenda
items, go around the group and ask the attendees to offer any
information or ask questions. To avoid getting shrugs, I make everyone
offer something, even if it's only a "good morning." Everyone is more
inclined to offer information or ask questions when they know that
they'll be asked to take an active role in the meeting. Once the meeting
is complete, have staff sign off that they attended. Ask staff not in
attendance to review the minutes at their soonest convenience.
