mon use vaporized hydrogen peroxide or UV light disinfection.
They're primarily used in hospital settings, and while I don't see
vaporized hydrogen peroxide as the best option in the outpatient envi-
ronment (because it takes a while to air out a room after it's used),
the UV light models are well worth considering.
We know UV light is extremely effective, and there's no need to wait
once they've finished bathing the OR with disinfecting UV light rays.
So facilities that believe they may have a true bioburden issue in the
environment — one that's negatively affecting patients — might really
benefit from the UV lights. And very recently, I was introduced to a
system that's far less expensive than the better-known brands. I was
impressed by its affordability, its design and its ease of use.
For now, using them for terminal cleaning is likely to be the most
realistic option. Even if your cleaning people do a good job, the sys-
tems help you get into those hard-to-reach nooks and easy-to-miss
crannies. We've seen a lot of positive literature relating to their effica-
cy in that regard. For some facilities, the systems are attractive simply
because they provide an added level of security with respect to termi-
