There's also a growing movement to build facilities that offer a one-stop shop for all the care patients need before, during and after sur- gery, and we wanted to stay ahead of that trend. Our patients undergo pre-op tests, surgery and follow-up visits in the same building, so they're familiar with the surroundings and know exactly where they need to go. They previously had to find several locations spread out across our medical campus for pre-op testing and underwent outpatient procedures in the hospital's main ORs. Offering all of those services under one roof in a technologically advanced facility offers unparalleled conven- ience and has been a boon for patient satisfaction. That's important, because patient-centered care is more important than ever. You can sit in a boardroom and discuss what you think patients want in a facility, but it's best to get their direct feedback. We met with patients and learned that they wanted to be able to spend time with loved ones in a comfortable and private pre-op setting, that they were attracted to warm, bright colors, and that they want- ed to undergo care with minimal movements and few interruptions. To help meet those demands, patients don't check in at a conventional registration desk; a concierge greets them at the front door after they valet their car and escorts them up to the surgery center, where they are greeted by a friendly face and a beautiful waiting area with plenty of windows. Surgeons also appreciate the convenience of being an elevator ride away from the ORs. They can schedule cases for first thing in the morning and finish up before clinic hours begin a few floors away at 9 a.m. The already fierce competition for surgeons and patients is heating up, and the new facility has significantly helped our efforts in attracting both. Instead of matching the competition in our area in order to keep our surgeons, recruit new docs and grow our patient volume, we now have the biggest surgery center in Instead of matching the competition, the competition is trying to keep up with us.
