Shrew's frozen heart warmed and the ice in it cracked.
Shrew enveloped her arms, around the tiny Yahoo
Her iced heart was melting, into some kind of goo.
Recovery nurses can attest to this day
The Shrew changed in front of them, in every way.
She held the Yahoo in her arms oh so tight
After surgery she rocked her, to well into night.
Then tiny Yahoo, dressed, to go home with her mother
Along with her father, and her 12 Yahoo brothers.
When the last person left and had gone out the door
Shrew saw the red trash bag still on the floor.
She changed out of scrubs, and bundled up for the cold
She stepped out the door and into snow.
Into her cold car she gave it a start
She felt kinda strange, down deep, in her heart.
Shrew closed her brown eyes, still feeling a glow
From a hug of a Yahoo, just minutes ago.
Shrew glanced in the mirror, gone was her blue fur
And long-ago memories of Christmases did stir.
She revved up the car engine, then drove out of sight
"Merry Christmas, Yahoos, and to you a good night."
