Stop and Check Before Placing Regional Blocks
T
o ensure anesthesia providers don't place blocks on the wrong
patient or wrong body part, we use a form containing a stop
sign and an area for the circulating nurse to sign when she has
seen the patient and confirmed the correct site. Once we complete
the form, we can proceed with the block. It's a simple but effective
way to add another layer of checks and balances to the pre-block rou-
tine.
