lower concentration of hydrogen per-
oxide, and typically have similar time
and room-sealing requirements to
HPV systems, according to a study
comparing the technologies
(osmag.net/gF3JBf). Makers of AIHP sys-
tems say their devices, which emit a
lower concentration of hydrogen per-
oxide that's been converted to reac-
tive oxygen species molecules to dam-
age pathogens, do not require sealing
of the room's ventilation and are less
toxic than aHP or HPV technologies.
Bright lights
Ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection sys-
tems tend to be less expensive,
require less training to operate and
have shorter cycles than hydrogen
peroxide units, says Dr. Perl.
Those factors are pushing their pop-
ularity in busy surgery centers, says
Julie Tonsager, OR team leader at the
St. Cloud (Minn.) Surgical Center. She
notes that her center currently uses 2
robots during terminal cleaning or
turnover of high-risk cases in the ORs,
as well as in rooms prior to total joint
cases.
Tru-D SmartUVC is the most studied
automated disinfection robot in history, with
more clinically-validated direct patient care
days than any other device.
