Glidewire Helps Guide Endoscopic Instruments
Olympus has acquired exclusive distributorship rights to the Terumo Glidewire, a
hydrophilic-coated guidewire used to help advance bulkier devices during biliary endo-
scopies and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) procedures. The
Glidewire provides precise ductal navigation, says Olympus, making it useful for guiding and
exchanging endoscopic instruments in the biliary system, including the common bile duct,
the cystic duct, the pancreatic duct and the right and left hepatic ducts, thus potentially
circumventing the need for surgery during challenging cases. By protecting against perfora-
tion and trauma, it may also reduce complications. In addition to expanding Olympus's
VisiGlide guidewire lineup, the partnership between Olympus and Terumo is expected to
enhance distribution, making it easier for physicians to acquire and use the Glidewire.
