For example, AORN does not recommend shoe covers to protect
patients, though it is an OSHA requirement. AORN recommends shoe
covers to protect the wearer's shoes from exposure to blood or body
fluids. We are learning more and more every day as new evidence is
discovered and we understand that these new findings and resulting
guidelines can be overwhelming and difficult to implement in practice.
AORN has created a suite of implementation tools that are available
with the Guidelines for Perioperative Practice that are designed to
assist teams to understand and implement the guidelines.

Think Lean
w Re: "The Focused Factory Approach to
Surgery" (November, page 32). Loved your
article on focused factories. Our system
chose to use LEAN concepts to help facili-
tate changes and standard work practices
to streamline efficient practices and
remove waste. Glad to see others doing
the same.
