An Easy Way to Track Reprocessed Endoscopes
H
ere's a convenient way
to keep track of every-
thing you need to
know about your endoscope
reprocessing and to be able to
trace which scope was used on
which patient, if necessary.
Every time you reprocess an
endoscope, put the printout from
the AER into a clear plastic
sleeve (available at any
business supply store)
and attach it to the
scope with a thick
rubber band. The
printout shows the
scope's serial num-
ber, the date it was
processed, which tech
processed it and that all steriliza-
tion parameters were met. Then, after the scope is used, the circulat-
ing nurse takes the printout out of the sleeve and tapes it into the
patient's permanent record and the process starts again.

z FOR THE RECORD Each AER printout stays with the scope
and eventually becomes part of the patient's permanent record.
