"We have developed a policy that a first-case-of-the-day block does not have to wait for the surgeon, as long as it was requested by the surgeon on the scheduling sheet and the attending anesthesiolo- gist is OK with the surgeon not being present," says Judith Manley- Plum, RN, MS, the center's director of nursing. "But we do have to wait for the surgeon to arrive before blocks are done for any later day cases that have requested one."
