'm a surgery center administrator with a background in post-par-
tum/nursery care. In that field, you band babies with parents to
make sure the correct baby goes home with the correct parent. I
carried that over to our pediatric patients. The parent that signs the con-
sent forms gets a wristband that matches her child's band. When we go
to the waiting room to call for a pediatric patient's parent, we know
we're connecting with the right person and there are never any mix-ups
in the recovery room. This has increased the safety of our pediatric
patients and decreased our risk of violating HIPAA laws.
