We have eliminated phaco and its associated dangers from 99% of our cataract cases with a little help from the laser (see "2 Steps to No More Phaco"). My phaco-free technique can only be accom- plished safely when the lens is flowed out of the capsular bag and into the anterior chamber, where minimal or no phaco energy is used.
