IDEAS
That Work
T
raffic in and out of the operat-
ing room is a potential source
of infection. To cut down on
traffic, we have placed hand sanitizer
dispensers on the wall inside the ORs
as well as by the scrub stations. Every
time staff use the sanitizers in the
room, that's 2 fewer times (one out,
one back in) that the door has opened.

VENDOR RELATIONS
Send Vendors an
Invite to Surgery
D
o vendors sometimes
complain after the fact
that they didn't know
about cases they needed to
observe? We started using
Outlook's
Meeting
Invite to
schedule
surgeries
with ven-
dors. Now,
when we
know a
vendor needs to be present for
a case, we send him an invite
with the date, time, surgeon's
name and any products he
needs to bring with him. The
vendor's acceptance verifies
that he received the informa-
tion. If he doesn't accept, our
staff follows up with him.
