Follow up to dash flash
Documentation is extremely important when changing to a no-flash
policy. It's understandable that flashing might happen once in a while
at the outset, but once becomes twice, becomes 3 times. And that's
why you need to track.
When we first switched, we maintained a daily log in Microsoft
Excel to track progress from flashing to wrapped steam cycles. The
idea was to let us chart our progress — or lack thereof. It looked
something like this:

Employees who were here before the changeover were trained to
meet state standards and are now certified central sterile processing
technicians. New hires must be certified. All staff members are
expected to pursue continuous education and participate in available
in-services.
The director of perioperative services is responsible for maintaining
the competency checklist and checking daily on employee knowledge
