As part of our policy and procedure revamp, we created a competency checklist for all personnel involved with instrumentation processing (see "Put Your Central Sterile Staff to the Test"). New employees must complete an initial skills checklist and be assigned to a preceptor for orientation and training. No employee will be alone in any job task until the proper training is documented and an error-free return demonstration is observed. 2. Trial the equipment. When we transitioned, we also had to choose new closed containers for steam sterilizing wrapped instruments. We asked 4 companies to let us demo their trays.
