We had brought on 2 staff members who specialized in spine to assure them we knew what we were doing. We had the surgeons talk to anesthesia to make sure our group had the capability to care for spine patients. We stressed that patient care throughout the perioperative process was the priority of everyone in our facility. First 1 surgeon, then another, then the final 2 signed on. It was as if they were each waiting see how the cases and patients' experiences would evolve. But the real test would be in the surgical outcomes. The surgeons put their faith in our abilities, and only over time would we prove ourselves.
