new lines of surgical services to score a pay bump. One hospital clinical director donned a hard hat for her bonus, completing the designbuild-opening of a new 6-OR surgery center to score more than
$20,000.
That amount was, of course, an exception. When increases do
come, they tend to be much more modest. Says Cathy Franks, RN, OR
supervisor at Community Medical Center of Izard County in Calico
Rock, Ark., "We were given a 3% cost of living, as there were no raises
in 2011."
Another Southern hospital's director of surgical services reports that
2012 was the year when the "board gave everyone a 0.5% bonus since
no one had had a raise in two-and-a-half years."
Is that all?
