Feeling the squeeze
Perhaps your annual salary is barely keeping up with the cost of living, or doesn't keep pace at all. Surgical managers in ASCs and hospitals reported a holding pattern — and frustration — in 2012 as they
stretched to meet rising costs. At this point, says Katie Appleberry,
RN, RDA, CDS, COMMSA, COMAA, administrator at the Center for
Oral and Facial Surgery in Chattanooga, Tenn., "I need a salary
increase. I haven't had one in over 3 years."
That's not to say business is lagging. She reports that the facility is
doing well, and looks forward to increased volume in 2013 with the
addition of a new surgeon, which helped her earn a healthy bonus for
