People intuitively know when they're overtaxed, and we expect them to take individual
responsibility. We put the expectations for
quality of care and hours worked out on the
table, and we're consistent about them — but
we are also flexible and open when someone
approaches management.
I've brought in staff and moved their schedules for rest purposes. Initially, they're a little
uncomfortable, but they end up thanking me
for it. I've also helped employees get leave
time and work with employee-assistance programs. It's important to make sure that in this
modern age we approach employees from a
perspective of helping them succeed.
