not proven, that SSIs can be caused by the lack of or poorly worn personal protective equipment. The organization must set the standards in
its policies and procedures and make these standards enforceable with
accountability (perhaps credentialing) rather than ask the RN in the
room to impose the measure. Asking a surgeon to relinquish his "skull
cap" for a hood or bouffant is quite an intimidating task. Many will
choose to just get through the day rather than upset anyone. Thank
you for bringing this topic to the surface. Skull caps must go, and
someone needs to get this message to the manufacturer.

Price Transparency Spurs Competition
◗ Re: "Cash-Only Surgery" (January, page 4). Good for Dr. Smith and his
partners at the Surgery Center of Oklahoma. Healthcare pricing is crazy.
Insurers pay only pennies on the dollar, and MDs and facilities bill
insane amounts, knowing in advance they're going to get only a small
percentage of what they bill. Transparency has worked for years in
LASIK and plastic surgery to keep quality high and prices competitive.
