• Spirituality. Victor, a.k.a "the Reverend," serves as my spiritual director. Well versed in his bible, the Reverend always offers me a scriptural passage for the day. More importantly, he then renders his interpretation of scripture, which is often so profound, it would make a Jesuit envious. Victor walks the talk as he lives his life with honor and reveres his family. I hope he becomes a minister someday, so I can hear him preach on Sundays as well.
• Sage advice. The practice of surgery (and life) has its challenges, and I am happy to say some of the best advice I've ever received has home from my Clean Team friends. One person in particular, Kenny, has the wisdom of Yoda. Whether I'm faced with the lawsuit du jour or my latest comedic indiscretion, Kenny can always offer a levelheaded, highly intelligent and kind word of advice. Kenny speaks from the voice of experience, and it's my sense that he has conquered many challenges in his young life.
Closing remarks
The environmental services crew at my hospital is a treasured resource. Not only is my OR spic-and-span, but I no longer have the need for engineers, ESPN SportsCenter, the Comedy Channel, Joel Osteen or psychotherapists. OSM
