INTERACTIVE TOOL
Staff Meetings Don't Have to be Boring
W
e use a free game app
(kahoot.com) to turn ho-
hum staff meetings into
fun, interactive learning sessions. It's
easy to input a series of multiple
choice or true-false questions into
the app's software. Each staff mem-
ber downloads the app onto their
cellphone and comes up with a cre-
ative screenname. We project the
questions and screen names —
there's a lot of laughter as we try to
figure out who's who — onto a wall in
the meeting room. The questions
typically pertain to new policies or
topics covered during the meeting,
and staff use their cellphones to sub-
mit answers in real time. The app tracks the answers, awards
points for correct responses and displays a leaderboard as staff
cheer and boo as the point totals change. Winning staff members
receive gift cards to a local restaurant. By the end of the meeting,
everyone is engaged in the discussion about the topics we quizzed
them about.
