How many vials of Revonto, a dantrolene formulation, should be stocked on your malignant hyperthermia cart? a. 32 c. 36 b. 34 d. 38 Answer: c If your facility stocks Revonto or Dantrium on the MH cart, you need a minimum of 36 vials along with at least 2400 ml of sterile water to recon- stitute the drug. Cross reference all the medications on your MH cart with the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States' (MHAUS) list of suggested supplies (osmag.net/Nnd5MQ). Also see "Why Organized MH Carts Matter" on p. 20 for more information about filling your carts' drawers with the supplies you'll need in the event of an MH crisis. 9. It's acceptable for your facility to store various strengths of lidocaine. a. true b. false Answer: a In general, you should always avoid stocking more than one strength of the same drug. Why is this so important? Many medication errors — especially those involving pediatric patients — are the result of a provider using the wrong strength of a controlled substance. Lidocaine, however, is one of those drugs where it's not only reasonable to stock various strengths, it's also often unavoidable. Distinct drug auxiliary labels, different color narcotic-use forms and separation in storage areas are all proven error-reducing tactics to differentiate various versions of lidocaine.
