On the Cover
The Laser Spine Institute had a
near monopoly on the minimally
invasive spine surgery market
until a run of bad luck and a
string of bad decisions forced the
company to close its doors for
good last month. Although the
company's decision to shut down
operations seemed to happen
overnight, it was an aggressive
business plan, cash flow prob-
lems and legal trouble that led to
its gradual demise.
