Did you know? To enhance the washer-disinfector's operating efficiency even more, fresh ambient air is preheated by the chamber exhaust air in the air-to-air heat exchanger before being electrically heated to the drying temperature set-point. This heated air is forced through the wash manifold into the spray arms and chamber to create turbulent action to effectively dry loads. An optional drying sensor monitors relative humidity of the outgoing air, terminating the drying cycle once the air reaches 4% relative humidity. At the same time, the unit's high-capacity chamber has been designed to accommodate up to 18 DIN trays per cycle while permiing highly-flexible load configurations that accommodate the placement of tall containers and mixed-sized packaging. Automation options such as automatic loaders, unloaders, and the Getinge Air Glide System (AGS) are also available. With AGS, a shule automatically picks up and transports a wash-cart, delivering it to the next available washer. Getinge's S-8668T washer-disinfector incorporates a highly intuitive, user-friendly interface that requires less training, and can be easily navigated by even the least experienced technician with confidence. Large 7-inch high-resolution screens are easy to read and monitor even at a distance, displaying critical process information including remaining cycle time and start-up selections clearly and logically. In addition to best-in-class productivity, the unit provides the ability to capture and store real-time cycle data via the Data Logging Module of Getinge's T-DOC Soware. This valuable source of information helps CSSD managers and hospital administrators quickly identify and remediate any problems, improve production planning, and verify compliance. From an environmental perspective, the S-8668T washer-disinfector uses the lowest possible amounts of water, detergent, and energy for a unit of its size to help institutions meet their sustainability goals. For retrofit and new construction projects, the washer-disinfector's vertical door requires less floor space than horizontal sliding doors to reduce the unit's footprint. And some lived to tell about it. In the 1500s, boiling oil was poured onto an amputee's wounds to stop the bleeding. Stay tuned. More to come. New Getinge Care equipment and service support options complement the resources of your institution's biomed team. Look for the full story in the next issue of Managing Risk. Party on. In 1842, American surgeon and pharmacist Crawford Long was the first to make use of inhaled sulfuric ether as an anesthetic to remove a tumor from the neck of a patient. Prior to that ether had been used as an intoxicant at parties. So that's how we got our name. In 1904, Swedish entrepreneur Olander Larsson started manufacturing agricultural equipment in the community of Getinge, Sweden and decided to name his company aer this small rural town. (Getinge started producing medical equipment in 1932 with the introduction of its first steam sterilizer.)
