racetrack. Identical
nursing stations that sit
at either end of the oval
provide staff with direct views of most of the bays. When the facility
is humming along at maximum capacity, two-thirds of the bays
toward the front of the facility are filled in the morning with patients
being prepped for surgery. As the day progresses, recovering patients
begin to fill the bays toward the back of the facility. That transition
