Ultrasonic energy now courses through the arms of the
Senhance digital laparoscopic platform, letting robotic surgeons
for the first time use torsional ultrasonic energy to dissect tissue
from the console. The ability to cut and coagulate simultaneously
with relatively low heat and limited thermal injury to surrounding
structures — no electricity goes to or through the patient — will
significantly expand the clinical applicability of Senhance surgery,
says TransEnterix, the only market-cleared competitor for
Intuitive Surgical and its da Vinci line of surgical robotics sys-
tems.
