assessment. We might, for example, put patients in the position
they're going to be in during surgery to see how well they tolerate
it when they're awake. We'll explain: Once we put you under anes-
thesia, you won't be able to tell me anything.
This, too, is an area where it's vitally important for nurses to col-
laborate with physicians and anesthesia. We need to be able to
say, that patient's arm doesn't extend fully, so we have to keep it
at an angle. Or maybe just, that position doesn't look right for that
patient.
