Sufentanil as a Sublingual Tablet
The FDA approved a 30-microgram sublingual tablet of sufentanil
last month, but under tight restrictions designed to prevent dosing
errors, misuse and diversion. Only healthcare providers can adminis-
ter Dsuvia through a pre-filled, single-dose applicator. And doctors
can't send patients home with the drug or write a prescription for it
— they must administer Dsuvia in hospitals, surgical centers or other
medically supervised settings. AcelRx Pharmaceuticals has plans to
launch Dsuvia in the first quarter of 2019.
