efore every
surgery, the
surgeon,
anesthesia provider
and surgical nurse
meet at the patient's
bedside in pre-op to
discuss the planned
surgery, using a stan-
dardized safety check-
list. The OR circulator
initiates the pre-op
briefing and consults
each team member for
valuable input. This practice helps to ensure that the team addresses
all aspects of the patient's care before the patient enters the OR. Only
after the brief is complete, with all team members in agreement, will
we take the patient to surgery.
