6. Limit foot traffic in the OR. "It's astounding the number of times
OR doors open for no good reason," says Dr. Chen. "Limiting the amount
of traffic makes a difference in the bacteria count in the room."
Try to bring in all needed equipment at the same time the patient is
rolled into the OR, says Dr. Chen, noting that nurses should monitor
foot traffic and stop people from entering or leaving for non-essential
reasons. Ms. Yerkes has posted signs outside of the main OR door that
tell non-members of the surgical team not to enter during joint
replacement cases unless it is absolutely necessary to do so.
