Could These Devices Help Prevent SSIs?
PRODUCTS FOR CLEANER AIR
Operio
The Operio looks like a
Mayo stand with a
screen on the back. The
screen emits ultra-clean
air over the sterile
instruments and surgical
site. A sterile protective
barrier lets you place the
unit close to the OR
table. The company also
makes a device called
the Surgicube, which is
designed to give you an
OR environment without
an OR. Patients are
treated directly under an outlet that expels ultraclean, laminar
flow. Made in Sweden by Toul Meditech, Surgicube will be dis-
tributed in the u.S. by Aseptic Air Control. This compact unit,
which stands 2.4 meters high and is available in various widths,
can be placed in any clean and draft-free room. The company
also offers an instrument table (SteriStay) that directs a flow of
air over the surgical site and instrument table.
